ABOUT QUIT & GET FIT

Quit & Get Fit is based on scientific studies that demonstrate how physical activity, and even deep breathing, can help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and can also assist in curbing possible post-quitting weight gain.  Physical activity can also help reduce cigarette consumption for those unwilling to or unable to quit.

Based on this scientific evidence, the Ontario Lung Association developed Quit & Get Fit to move smoking cessation (support to help people quit smoking) into a community-based fitness environment.  The program focuses on the one-on-one coaching and motivational interaction between a personal fitness trainer and a client, incorporating evidence-based cessation approaches into the development of a personal health and wellness plan.

Quit & Get Fit was made possible through funding from the Government of Ontario (2010 – 2012).  There is currently no active funding to run Quit & Get Fit in the community.  However, we do encourage anyone who has decided to, or is thinking about, quitting smoking to make sure they incorporate even a modest amount physical activity into their daily routine.
